With football season kicking off this weekend, I thought this article was a perfect read.
I don't know about you, but it is easy to "hate" players from the opposing team. It's easy to condemn players for a bad play or a dumb decision, but is this right?
The players on the field that we cheer for or root against are not only players...they are people and some are amazing followers of Jesus. I was reminded of this fact ealier this week as I watched my team utterly collapse and lose the game. At the end of the game, I was frustrated and it was easy to blame the players on my team for their lack of effort and "hate" the players on the other team for making my team look bad. When the game ended, I was busy whining and complaining to the others in the room, when the camera panned to the center of the field showing a group of players from both teams gathering at the 50 yard line to pray.
In this article, you will be reminded (hopefully) that these players are not defined by what team they play for or by what play they made or didn't make. They are defined by whether or not they are known and loved by Jesus. In this article, one quarterback said this after a season ending mistake:
So he went right to the sidelines and thanked God his life wasn’t defined by football, because “this is a bad deal for me.”
