This summer's reading challenge is all about having "devotional" conversations with our spouses and families. The real habit that we are trying to build in our families is not necessarily reading the Bible together and praying together (although these are very important and should happen). What we are trying to create is a normalcy in having spiritual conversations with our families. That sitting around the table or driving in the car or going for a walk are all places God wants to step into our daily family habits and routines.

I'm praying that it becomes normal for parents to ask their children how they can pray for them and then do so right there. That it becomes normal for a dad to open his Bible, read a passage and ask his family what God is revealing to them through the passage. That it becomes normal for spouses to regularly ask each other how they better come alongside each other spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

The point...healthy habits help create healthy families as "we are learning to live, lead, and multiply Jesus-Shaped lives, families, and communities."

In this article (link below), the author does a gratuitous job laying out: The Basics, Spiritual Rhythms, and General Tips to spiritually leading your family.

Here is an exert:

"I'm not able to properly lead my family into spiritual health if I myself am not intentionally growing spiritually. They are watching you closely: lead through your example. There is no faster way to give Christianity a bitter taste than for your kids to niff our that you don't take your walk seriously. Similarly, the spiritual temperature in your marriage will impact your children. The depth of spiritual intimacy in your marriage will directly affect the depth of spiritual intimacy in your family."
